Round 13 - The Orange Round

22 Jul 2019 by Amber Cull

This weekend our club will be participating in Orange Round at Phillip Island Soccer Club. The round aims to promote gender equality and to prevent violence against women and girls. As part of our participation we will have a 20 minute presentation on Thursday night at 6.30pm to explain the meaning behind the round and learn more about what will be happening on the weekend.
The Orange Round event has also partnered with The Change for Sam Committee which was established following the tragic death of Samantha Fraser 12 months ago who was allegedly murdered by her ex-husband. Change for Sam are wanting to work with the Phillip Island community to make change to attitudes and prevent family violence.

Lots of Orange will be on display on weekend and we invite everyone to wear something orange in support of this initiative.

During the presentation on Thursday there will be more explained about what will be happening on match day at Newhaven but a summary is below. There will be Orange Round/Change For Sam signage around the reserve and a marquee set-up whereby anyone wanting further information can visit.

Players from U12’s up will be asked to wear orange tape on their arms in an act of solidarity and courage towards our shared goal of promoting gender equality to eliminate family violence against women (tape will be supplied)

Phillip Island Senior Women’s and Men’s teams will be wearing orange socks.

There will be a 10 minute presentation followed by a minute silence at around 11.45am. We encourage as many senior and older juniors to be present for this.
