Historic day
30 Nov 2024 by Tony Gardner
Today marks a small event but a historic day for our club.
The Korumburra Football Club honour boards were removed and taken down to the showgrounds.
Ken Myers (Korumburra Bena FC President) Glen Barret (Korumburra Cricket Club President) and I (Korumburra City Soccer Club President) were there with Phil Richards and the Newton family to take them down. The big one was very big! I wish I had taken a photo of us all there but we were focused on the job.😢
Ken told me his dad helped build the clubrooms in 1959, which were used by the Football and cricket clubs until Korumburra merged with Bena FC about 20 years ago and the Cricket club built their own club house which they still use to this day.
Our soccer club started in 2008 and took over the use of the club rooms.
We have been trying for many years to get the Football club to take these boards, but there was always some resistance and challenges. We thank Ken and the Football club immensely for this act and acknowledge that there is still great connection and history in our club rooms.
Now as you can see the wall needs a paint, (calling our club painters for some help) and then we can go about mounting our big screen TV and devote some space to building the history of our club, with our flags and championship plaques.
We will be organising a day in the new year for club members to come down and help us make it more of our home.
Go Burra
Tony Gardner
Korumburra City Soccer Club President
