Jo Sawyers - Child safety

15 Dec 2024 by Tony Gardner

Hi. My name is Joanne Sawyers. I have been nominated to be our Clubs’s MPIO (Member Protection Information Officer) and club child safeguarding champion. I have completed several online modules and webinars to help me to understand what the position entails
My main role is to be impartial and to listen and support young people to feel safe within our sporting community. We have updated our Club’s policies to reflect the National Integrity Framework which guides members behaviour and conduct in sport as per our overarching body Football Australia as well as adhering to the national child safe standards.
I can be a listening ear if you feel you have been treated unjustly in any way. I can direct you to appropriate services if required and assist if you feel you need to make a formal complaint.
On a personal note, I am married to Stuart, and we have 3 children. I am a Registered Nurse with 30 years experience and I am used to having confidential conversations with people and I am a good listener. So if you have any issues feel free to approach me or speak to Tony who can pass on my number.
I have been involved with Korumburra City Soccer Club for the past 2 seasons supporting my daughter Lauren and her teammates. Having never been involved with soccer before, I have been pleasantly surprised as to how friendly, supportive and inclusive our Club is and how much fun the game is to watch and I’m sure play. Our Club’s aim is to continue to provide a welcoming and safe environment for all participants.
