Child safety
25 May by Tony Gardner
This week at training our child safety officer Jo Sawyers will go around to each group and introduce herself to the kids. Jo has put her hand up as a volunteer to run our MPIO child safety program, she is independent of committee, has been to the MPIO training, and can be a listening ear if the kids or parents have any concerns. As a volunteer club we do everything we can around this subject.
Some of the most important things for all to know.
Adults should not enter a changeroom if there is only one child in there. Kids should be encouraged to buddy up when going to the changerooms to avoid this happening.
We ask two adults to stay behind if a kid is not picked up from training. Please, don’t put us in that position.
No volunteer should give a child a lift home unless they have expressed permission from the parent/guardian.
Here is what Jo wrote in December
My main role is to be impartial and to listen and support young people to feel safe within our sporting community. We have updated our Club’s policies to reflect the National Integrity Framework which guides members behaviour and conduct in sport as per our overarching body Football Australia as well as adhering to the national child safe standards.
I can be a listening ear if you feel you have been treated unjustly in any way. I can direct you to appropriate services if required and assist if you feel you need to make a formal complaint.
On a personal note, I am married to Stuart, and we have 3 children. I am a Registered Nurse with 30 years experience and I am used to having confidential conversations with people and I am a good listener. So if you have any issues feel free to approach me or speak to Tony who can pass on my number.
I have been involved with Korumburra City Soccer Club for the past 2 seasons supporting my daughter Lauren and her teammates. Having never been involved with soccer before, I have been pleasantly surprised as to how friendly, supportive and inclusive our Club is and how much fun the game is to watch and I’m sure play. Our Club’s aim is to continue to provide a welcoming and safe environment for all participants.
